Enrique Alferez escaped from Mexican Revulationary forces to El Paso. Once in America he decided to be an artist, and inspired by a lecture by Chicago sculptor Loredo Taft (1860-1936), traveled to Chicago where he enrolled in the School at the Art Institute of Chicago (@saicpics). He would later move to New Orleans where he would spend the majority of his life and career. In a 1988 essay, @noma1910 Director Emiritus E. John Bullard argues that his sensationalized life story has unfortunately overshadowed the artist’s legacy.
