Curbed: “Gallier Hall to undergo $5 million interior renovation”

The Greek Revival building Gallier Hall, which overlooks Lafayette Square and is the spot for much of the pomp and circumstance New Orleans Carnival, is undergoing a $5 million renovation, according to The Advocate.

The building’s interior will undergo a complete renovation, and that includes refurbishing the building’s 41 paintings and their frames. The Helis Foundation is funding that part of the renovation; the city is raising private funds for the rest of the endeavor…

WWL-TV: “City begins Gallier Hall makeover”

Gallier Hall is getting a much-needed renovation.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other city officials made the announcement Tuesday morning, saying the work will include the restoration of artwork, chandeliers, windows and much more.

First Lady of New Orleans, Cheryl Landrieu, called the makeup a “legacy project.”

The scope of the work includes restoring about 40 paintings inside the hall, 33 chandeliers and 60 windows located in the grand ballroom.

“We’re executing a vision to completely restore the interior of the building, to really imagine what the building can be like for future generations to come,” said Cheryl Landrieu…

CityBusiness: “Renovation work begins at Gallier Hall”

A major renovation of Gallier Hall begins Tuesday on the inside of the historic building in downtown New Orleans.

Workers are restoring historic paintings and frames, chandeliers and windows located in 12 grand ballrooms, according to a news release from the city.


The period furnishings used during the building’s life as City Hall, which have been in storage, will be restored and displayed throughout the building. The restoration will also include millwork repair, painting, re-wiring, floor refinishing, the restoration of two antique Steinway pianos, refurbishing the Ty Tracy Theater and installing a state-of-the-art audio/visual system…

WGNO-TV: “Gallier Hall’s return to glory: 300-year-old building gets complete facelift”

About $5 million in renovations began today inside the historic Gallier Hall on St. Charles Avenue.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and members of the New Orleans Tricentennial Committee held a news conference outside of the historic building to announce the start of the project.

A piece of the exterior fell in in summer 2014, damaging the granite stairs. After that, preservationists did a full forensic analysis of the building.

Exterior renovations, expected to cost about $10 million, began in 2014. ..
