WVUE-TV: “Life-saving NOPD officer inspires training program to benefit hundreds”

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) – A New Orleans police officer’s admission that he couldn’t swim after a recent water rescue may have opened the door for him and others to learn a skill that could save lives.

The officer has signed up for swim lessons, and a local oil company has pitched in to provide swim lessons to up to 200 first responders.

“I like just being in the water. It makes your skin feel good,” said Treyshawn Hurley, who is defying the odds as the CDC says African Americans are six times less likely to know how to swim when compared to other races – a big problem in New Orleans…

WGNO-TV: “New giant golden seahorse sculpture arrives on Poydras Street”

International Sculpture Day is coming up on Saturday and to celebrate New Orleans now has a new seahorse sculpture on Poydras Street between St. Charles Avenue and Camp Street.

“Evenings with Enrique” Every Wednesday in April at New Orleans Botanical Garden

Every fall and spring, hundreds of visitors enjoy food, drinks, and live music amongst the beautiful grounds of The Helis Foundation Enrique Alférez Sculpture Garden. By popular demand, the New Orleans Botanical Garden has reprised the series and will extend its hours to 8 p.m. every Wednesday during the month of April beginning Wednesday, April 4, to celebrate “Evenings with Enrique.” Throughout the year, every Wednesday is free to Louisiana residents, courtesy of The Helis Foundation.
