The Greek Revival building Gallier Hall, which overlooks Lafayette Square and is the spot for much of the pomp and circumstance New Orleans Carnival, is undergoing a $5 million renovation, according to The Advocate.

The building’s interior will undergo a complete renovation, and that includes refurbishing the building’s 41 paintings and their frames. The Helis Foundation is funding that part of the renovation; the city is raising private funds for the rest of the endeavor.

Chandeliers, windows, furnishings from the building’s period as New Orleans City Hall, and two Steinway pianos are among the pieces being restored.

The building underwent a $10 million exterior renovation last year when part of the building’s facade came loose.
